What can a psychiatric nurse practitioner do?

Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) serve in a variety of settings to diagnose and treat mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD and schizophrenia. PMHNP’s often provide patient education as well as therapy or counseling to patients with mental health or psychiatric disorders.

At Different MHP our psychiatric nurse practitioners provide treatment for mental health conditions with prescription medications, counseling and education, along with a close look at holistic methods of managing mental health symptoms including nutrition and physical activity.
Do you offer controlled substances like adderall or xanax?

The providers at Different MHP use their clinical judgment to develop a personalized and individualized treatment plan. We require all psychiatric nurse practitioners to hold a valid DEA license and undergo appropriate training.

Each individual treatment plan is personalized, we cannot guarantee that a controlled medication will be prescribed. Controlled medications may require additional measures to prevent abuse and/or diversion of the medication to and including random pill counts and urine drug screens.

The prescribers at Different MHP are bound by certain rules and regulations from the U.S Federal government – currently the DEA has issued a temporary rule extending controlled substance prescribing flexibilities via telehealth through December 2024 to continue to waive the requirements for “in person” and “face to face” visit to obtain controlled substances at this time. We will continue to monitor the evolving regulatory landscape to ensure excellent access and treatment to treatment.
